As you are aware, your obligation to keep underwriters apprised of up-to-date information is on-going throughout your policy period and time with SEMPRIS. We are, therefore, writing to remind you please to advise us as soon as possible of any changes in respect of any of the information you have provided, including changes in roles or responsibilities, so that we can pass such changes onto insurers.
Territorial and Jurisdictional Limits
The territorial limits of the policy are (and have always been) Worldwide excluding the US and Canada. Travel anywhere else in the world is already covered, if declared, subject to the jurisdictional limits.
The jurisdictional limits of the policy are UK and EU, meaning that a claim must be brought within these territories, and we advise members to make any patients resident outside of these areas aware of this prior to any consultation or treatment.
The practical application of territorial and jurisdictional limits means that, as long as you are practising & the patient is located outside of the US and Canada (territorial restriction), and they understand that any claim must be brought within the UK and Europe (jurisdictional restriction), your policy will respond to a related incident / claim.
“Is all work performed within the United Kingdom?”
This is one of the questions asked on the Financial Information page of your renewal form:
If you select ‘No’, it will provide a box for free text where you can provide information about travel. Please be sure to include even potential travel which is not yet confirmed (e.g. dependent on a team’s qualification for a tournament/pre-season, etc.).
If you have not declared work outside the UK in your proposal form or at renewal, please be sure to let us know as soon as you are asked to take or carry out a role involving travel outside the UK. Typically, we will need to know:
- Date/s of travel
- Location/s of travel
- Team/s and/or sport/s with whom you will be working
- Any additional income generated by the role
USA and Canada
It is possible to request an extension of cover under your policy to allow you to cover work within the USA and Canada. We will require a jurisdictional waiver to be signed by both you and the team / club / organisation with whom you are travelling prior to travel. Each individual trip to the USA & Canada has to be agreed and extended coverage requested on a case by case basis (this is stipulated by the underwriters).
As always, if you have any questions at all about your cover, or would like to discuss any aspect of the above with one of our team, please call us on 020 8652 9018 or email info@sempris.co.uk. We look forward to hearing from you.
