We bring this edition of Horizons to you with a tinge of collective sadness and loss, as the UK and commonwealth navigate their way through the period of mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Most of us will not have experienced the death of a monarch in our adult lives and, as we pause and adjust, at SEMPRIS, we have been reflecting on the many ways the Royal Family have, and do, engage with sport, and the myriad opportunities this provides.
From the Queen’s famous love of horseracing, to the inspiration of the Invictus Games and the very many sports associations and charities with a royal Patron, one does not need to be a committed royalist to appreciate the positive impact our Royal Family has on sport, from grass roots initiatives, to raising and supporting the profile of our athletes and teams on the world stage. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Royal Family, and all those mourning the loss of a truly great monarch.
